One of the cool things about living in an RV park is you know what everyone is having for dinner.
The popular grub around here is spaghetti and meatballs, macaroni and cheese and just about anything grilled. About once a week though, someone fires up a charcoal grill for steak night. Who knows whether it’s a tough cut of round or a buttery bone-in ribeye. It smells divine just the same.
I’m that neighbor who heats up oil and fries — everything from fresh Gulf oysters to potatoes and onions. I fire up the grill too. But it’s what my neighbors don’t always get a whiff of that wins me the nightly prize.
If you’re one of my 16 followers, you know that I have a love affair with Stubb’s® sauces and seasonings. Sure, they’re Texas born and bred with real ingredients, but the real reason for my infatuation lies with my taste buds. Growing up in Texas, I’ve tasted plenty of local, regional and national barbecue sauces. Some are decent, but most are the same — a misplaced interpretation of the all-important smoke-spicy-sweet balance.
Stubb’s®, on the other hand, gets there for the cash.
The kind folks at this Austin-based company occasionally send me some goods. The catch? They simply ask me to cook with them and tell the world what I think. My thoughts on the Sticky Sweet version are simple: It reminds me of childhood barbecues. It’s great on it’s own, but caramelizes perfectly during the final few minutes on the grill. It’s sweet — not in a dessert way — and requires plenty of napkins or finger licking.
And that’s divine barbecue sauce. The best in the neighborhood, in fact.
